2010 is the year the first Wednesday of February was declared "International Day of Reading Together". It is a global event marked in more than 100 countries and through this day it is desired to draw the attention of the international community to the importance of reading and literacy as a fundamental human right.
Oradea Art Nouveau Rotary Club wanted in 2021 to be part of this movement to raise awareness of the importance of reading and organized the online events "Read with Mirela Tanc" and"Read with Florin Bican" for the students Middle School Oltea Doamna and the students Secondary schools in Pietroasa.
This event was intended to be a call to reading as a way of developing creativity, empathy and critical thinking, but it was much more than that. Due to the topic covered in the proposed novel for reading, Miracle by RJ Palacio, the meeting did not boil down to being just a plea for reading, but became a warm and friendly debate about empathy, kindness, friendship, prejudice and self-acceptance.
One of the priority areas towards which Oradea Art Nouveau Rotary Club focus is on supporting education. We are happy that this online meeting resonated with the minds and souls of the participating students. We want to have the power and resources to get more and more involved in supporting education and to make an important contribution to its development.
